Certified Drainlayer – Team Leader

About Us: Tōhaunui Limited is a proudly Māori-owned company delivering high-quality drainage, civil, electrical and construction services throughout the Hawke’s Bay region. We’re growing and looking for a Certified Drainlayer to join our team in a leadership role.

Key Responsibilities:

● Leading a small drainage crew on-site, ensuring daily productivity and quality of work

● Installing stormwater and wastewater drainage systems to a high standard

● Reading and interpreting plans, levels and council specifications

● Communicating clearly with site supervisors, clients, engineers, and subcontractors

● Ensuring compliance with health & safety policies and protocols

● Preparing for and attending council inspections as required

● Completing daily job sheets and timesheets accurately

● Mentoring and guiding less experienced staff

● Reporting progress and any issues to the Site Supervisor or Project Manager

What You’ll Need:

● A current Certified Drainlayer Licence

● Proven experience working in civil or residential drainage projects

● Strong leadership and communication skills

● Full NZ driver’s licence (Class 4 is a bonus)

● High standards for quality, safety, and site presentation

● Ability to problem-solve and adapt on-site

● Reliability, work ethic, and a team-first attitude

Bonus Skills (not essential but a plus):

● Site Safe Passport

● Confined Space/Working at Heights certifications

● Class 4 Truck Licence or WTR endorsements

● Knowledge of GPS or laser levels
