Machine Operator / Class 4 Truck Driver

About Us: Tōhaunui Limited is a proudly Māori-owned company delivering civil, drainage, construction and electrical services across Hawke’s Bay. We’re on the hunt for an experienced and motivated Machine Operator / Truck Driver to join our growing team.
About The Role:
This is a dual role, with approximately 80% machine operating and 20% truck driving responsibilities. You’ll primarily be operating excavators (1.7T to 5.5T), with occasional work on 14T machines when required. Your role will include site prep, trenching, backfilling and assisting with drainage and civil works.

Key Responsibilities:
● Safe and skilled operation of excavators up to 5.5T (14T is a bonus)
● Occasional driving and cartage using a Class 4 truck
● Daily machine checks and minor maintenance
● Working with ground crews and site supervisors to meet project timelines
● Accurate and tidy excavation for drainage and civil work
● Maintaining a clean, safe, and professional site presence
● Attending toolbox meetings and following all H&S protocols
What You’ll Need:
● Class 4 Licence (essential)
● WTR endorsements (essential)
● 3–5 years' experience operating machinery in civil or construction
● Confidence using smaller excavators (1.7T–5.5T); 14T experience is a bonus
● Strong communication and teamwork skills
● A good attitude, reliability, and a strong work ethic
● Ability to follow site plans and supervisor instructions
Bonus Skills (not essential but a plus):
● Site Safe or ConstructSafe
● GPS or Digger Assist experience (training available)
● Drainage or civil experience
